The July BSIG meeting continues the summer observing sessions. We will be meeting on Saturday July 16th at ELO in Baylor Park 8:00pm to 11:00pm. You are welcome and encouraged to arrived earlier if you have equipment to setup or need some assistance. Our primary targets will be the planets, the moon, and a few double stars.
We will learn to identify some of the more common features of the planets and get hands on experience with their identification.
A bonus challenge will be spotting Venus and Mercury in conjunction 1/2 degree apart about 15 minutes after sunset which is at 8:57pm. Seeing Venus and Mercury will require a clear western horizon and probably binoculars or a small telescope to help you locate them. If you are lucky to spot Venus and Mercury you have the chance too see 5 planets in the sky at once.
This is not a public star party night but we may have A random camper or two stop in. Bring your own telescope. Hands on assistance will be available. It will be nice to share and compare the views of objects between various telescopes. We will likely have the dome open for use but possibly not Onan.
This is a fair weather only event. Watch this thread for Go/No-Go by 3pm.
All members,member guests, or prospective members are welcome. Additional details and observing opportunities will be posted here as the observing list for the night is completed.
